Pics from our 2 Year Anniversary

Last weekend Draw Me Lion turned 2! To celebrate we teamed up with Tin Can Studio and the Chinatown Night Market and hosted a Free Fun Activity Station for two days. There were colouring posters to colour, masks to make, pictures to draw, postcards to write and tons of craft supplies to just be creative. And as an added bonus for those who brought their furry pals to attend... I drew some free dog portraits!

The event was a total success and I had such a great time inviting kids and adults to come and make things and get to draw some truly amazing dogs. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to celebrate with us that weekend and to everyone who's been supporting the Draw Me A Lion shop over the last 2 years. I am truly grateful to you all! Please keep doing what you're doing.

We're Turning 2 & You're Invited!

School's back on and so are we! Starting off with celebrating our 2 year anniversary a bit early this year by doing a fun collaborative project with Tin Can Studio at the New Chinatown Night Market. Come down for some good times!

Little Red Riding Hood & Other Stories - The Making of a Picture Book

It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve been teaching at Emily Carr for three years already. So many talented students took my course, and now it is my pleasure to be able to share some of the work that they produced in class with the public. The show titled ‘Little Red Riding Hood and Other Stories – The Making of a Picture Book’ presents work that Continuing Studies students created in my level 1 and level 2 Illustration for Picture Book courses.The majority of the show is dedicated to student’s interpretations of the timeless tale of little red riding hood, which is one of the assignments given in class.

There's always a great mix of people in my classes and I know that all of them are genuinely interested in the subject matter. It makes teaching so much fun. Sure, I groan about the prep and admin work from time to time but in the end every time I’m actually in the classroom and have people come in, excited to learn and with great work it’s so worth it.

This show is a tribute to all of my past students, the effort they put into the course, the work that they made, and the things that they taught me.

This SO made my day:)

While at a fair a couple of weeks ago, I had the cutest thing happen to me. The talented Mary Kim her husband Yang and their little bundle of cuteness came by the Draw Me A Lion booth to visit and look what they brought me! Mary and Hannah made me a letter P pin (it has a safety pin on the back so I can stick it on my shirt) and put it into this little envelope with a little p on the back of it. It appears that Hannah is really into my book "Paulina P for Petersen" right now and so she wanted to make me a letter P. Totally teared up a wee bit when I opened the envelope and Mary told me the story behind it. Those little cute kids can really get to you! Thanks SO much Hannah, Mary and Yang! You guys are P-erfectly awesome!

Also, yes, this is my book Paulina P. for Petersen:) One of these days I'd like to get a new book published. I think it's about time for a new one. Pretty soon hopefully... we'll see. 

Sneak Peak: Flower Buttons Bouquets

Want to give some flowers that lasts and lasts? How about one of our new Flower Button Bouquets? So new they're not even in shops yet! 

But they will be soon, plus we'll be sure to sell them at all of our upcoming outdoor fairs and markets we're part of this Summer. Flower time! 

Two New Cards, One New Style

I just finished adding two brand new cards to the shop. They vary a little stylistically from my other card designs. I thought it would be nice to try something a little different. That doesn't mean that I will now make all my cards like this but just that there might be a bit more variety in the works. More room for play, for new drawing and painting mediums. These two were done with brush, water colour and coloured pencil. I always have a good time drawing with mediums I haven't used for a while. It's so satisfying and exciting to dunk your brush into a fantastic colour like red and see how it will turn up on the paper you're working with. This time a little tiger or tabby sitting in the grass and someone who seems to have hurt themselves a bit showed up in my drawing session. I wonder who will show up next time.
